Allergy skin prick tests are performed to investigate whether you have become sensitised to things like house dust, furry animals (e.g. cats and dogs), pollens, moulds and fungal spores.
Allergy skin prick tests are performed by putting a drop of liquid containing allergy extract and then pricking the skin and waiting to see if you develop a hive or swelling like a nettle rash. It’s important not to take any anti-histamines for 72 hours beforehand, as this can mask any potential positive reaction. The results are available in approximately 15-20 minutes.
